Emotional Intelligence (EQ-i)

Why get curious about:

Let's start this conversation by recognizing that yes, we humans are emotional beings. For better or worse, our emotions motivate us when to take action and when to do nothing. Our emotions give us clues to let us know when we're on the right track, or when we might need to shift gears. And it's our emotions that effect how well we handle ourselves and our relationships.

And even though some of us may have been led to believe that being emotional is a bad thing, the truth is not only do we all come by this emotion-driven tendency honestly (it's our nature!) our emotions are here to provide us the critical information -- information we need to not just survive, but to enjoy life more.

Abstract Shapes

Officially:

"EQ-i is a set of emotional and social skills that influence the way we understand and express ourselves, understand and relate to others, and cope with challenges in an effective way."

Here's where it all starts:

Most of us have never been taught how to use emotional information in an effective and meaningful way.

Most education focuses on very linear, technical learning skills with hardly and nod to the role that emotion plays in our lives. And while we might be aware of feelings that crop up to some extent, without learning how to effectively use emotional data means our actions are often left up to the subconscious brain functions. This auto-pilot functioning can have the biggest impact on how we show up for ourselves and others.

That's where EQ comes in. Emotional intelligence has gained significance precisely because we now know it's one of the most important set of skills a person can have to achieve sustainable high performance and wellbeing.

Here's the good news:

EQ-i is a skillset that can be learned.

I use the EQ-i 2.0 assessment combined with personal coaching for a hands-on real-time approach that works. We'll work together to look at what is actually happening in your day-to-day life, and then integrate ways to help you learn to recognize and use emotions to keep you more focused and motivated, strengthen your relationships, be more confident in your decision making, reduce stress, and find your unique path to a greater sense of wellbeing.
